Why 4g of Myo-Inositol and NO LESS?

Her'dration contains 4 grams of myo-inositol per scoop because 4 grams is the dose the clinical research actually used.Β Most inositol products on the shelf contain somewhere between 500 mg and 2 grams. That gap isn't a rounding error β€” it's the difference between a dose that has been studied and a dose that hasn't.

Myo-inositol is the anchor ingredient in Her'dration. It's the reason the formula exists, the reason it's a powder instead of a capsule, and the single biggest cost in every tub we make. Here's the research behind the number, and the formulation decisions we made to protect it.

What myo-inositol does in your body

Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring compound found in citrus fruits, beans, nuts, and whole grains. Your body also makes it on its own, primarily in the kidneys.

Its job is signaling. Myo-inositol acts as aΒ second messengerΒ β€” the molecule that carries a hormone's instruction from the outside of a cell to the machinery inside. When insulin arrives at a cell and says "take in glucose," myo-inositol is part of the relay that delivers the message. The same is true for follicle-stimulating hormone in the ovary, and for serotonin in the brain.

That's why one compound shows up in research on blood sugar, cycle regularity, and mood at once. It isn't doing three unrelated jobs. It's improving the clarity of one signaling system all three depend on β€” which is exactly the system under strain through PMS, perimenopause, and menopause.

Why Her'dration uses 4 grams

Across the clinical literature one dose appears again and again:Β 2 grams twice daily, 4 grams per day total.

That's the dose in the meta-analyses. That's the dose in the large observational cohorts. That's the dose in trials comparing myo-inositol head-to-head against pharmaceutical insulin sensitizers. A 2012 meta-analysis pooling twelve randomized controlled trials across roughly 700 women used 4 grams daily and found significant improvements in insulin sensitivity markers including HOMA-IR and fasting insulin. A German observational study following more than 3,600 women used 2,000 mg twice daily over two to three months and reported meaningful improvements in hormonal markers.

A position statement from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada notes that while dosing guidance is still developing, 4 grams per day appears to be the most effective insulin-sensitizing dose.

The pattern is consistent: trials at 4 grams daily generally outperform trials at 1 or 2 grams total.

So when we formulated Her'dration, the myo-inositol number wasn't a marketing decision or a cost decision. We started at the dose the research supported and built the rest of the formula around it.

What a serving of Her'dration actually delivers

One 2.5 tsp (9 g) scoop contains:

  • 4 g myo-inositolΒ β€” the full studied daily dose, in one scoop
  • 200 mg L-theanineΒ β€” for calm focus, without caffeine
  • 25 mg pregnenoloneΒ β€” a natural hormone precursor, for mood and energy
  • 52.5 mg magnesium malateΒ β€” for muscle function and relaxation
  • 390 mg sodium and 260 mg potassiumΒ β€” from Redmond Real Salt and potassium chloride, for real hydration

Thirty servings per tub at $49 β€” about $1.63 a day for all of it.

The eight-capsule problem

Here's the practical reason most brands don't deliver 4 grams: it doesn't fit in a capsule.

Most myo-inositol capsules hold 500 mg. Hitting the studied dose meansΒ eight capsules a day. Nobody sustains that for the three to six months the research says it takes. So the industry does the obvious thing β€” puts one or two capsules on the label, calls it a serving, and counts on nobody checking the trials.

An inositol gummy at 1,000 mg is at one-quarter of the studied dose. A 500 mg capsule is at one-eighth. Those products can honestly say they contain myo-inositol. What they can't say is that they contain the amount the research was built on.

This is why Her'dration is a powder. One scoop, one glass of water, all 4 grams β€” no counting, no pill fatigue, no quietly skipping doses because eight capsules is a chore. The format followed the dose, not the other way around.

Why Her'dration has no sugar in it

There's a detail in the absorption research with direct consequences for how an inositol product should be built:Β glucose and other sugars interfere with myo-inositol absorption.Β Sugar reduces both intestinal uptake and the kidney's reabsorption of the compound.

Which raises an awkward question about inositol gummies and sugar-sweetened inositol drinks. If the delivery vehicle is sugar, the vehicle is working against the active ingredient you bought it for.

Her'dration has no added sugar and 1 gram of total carbohydrate. It's sweetened with organic debittered stevia extract and flavored only with real fruit β€” organic raspberry powder in Raspberry Refresher, lime powder in Lime Margarita, coconut milk powder and organic strawberry powder in Coconut Strawberry. No artificial or natural flavors, no dyes.

That wasn't only a calorie decision. It's a formulation decision that protects the 4 grams you're paying for.

The menopause research used 4 grams too

Most people associate myo-inositol with cycle and fertility research. Less well known is that the menopause literature landed on the same dose.

A 12-month randomized study inΒ ClimactericΒ enrolled 80 postmenopausal women on either myo-inositol 2 grams twice daily or placebo, tracking glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, triglycerides, cholesterol, waist circumference, and blood pressure. An earlier six-month randomized, placebo-controlled study inΒ MenopauseΒ used the same 2-grams-twice-daily protocol and reported significant improvements in blood pressure, HOMA index, cholesterol, and triglycerides versus placebo.

Both used 4 grams per day. The dose didn't change when the population did.

That's central to how Her'dration is built. It isn't a cycle product that women age out of. Insulin sensitivity tends to decline through the menopausal transition as estrogen falls, and the signaling system myo-inositol supports is the same one under pressure during that shift. One formula, one dose, from PMS through perimenopause and beyond.

Why myo-inositol alone, and not a blend

Some inositol products combine myo-inositol with D-chiro-inositol. Her'dration uses myo-inositol alone.

Myo-inositol is the form carrying by far the largest body of clinical research, and 4 grams of it is the dose that research established. Blended products split the total between two forms, which usually means less myo-inositol per serving than the trials used. We'd rather deliver the full studied amount of the well-researched form than a partial amount of two.

How long it takes β€” and why that shaped the format

The research here is consistent and it isn't a fast answer:Β two to three months minimum, with the strongest results generally reported around six months.

Myo-inositol doesn't do something noticeable in an hour. It works by improving how consistently a signaling system operates, and that accumulates. Which means the product you'll actually finish beats the product that's technically stronger but sits in the cabinet.

That's the whole argument for making it a drink you look forward to instead of a handful of capsules. Three flavors exist for the same reason β€” adherence is the variable that decides whether 4 grams does anything at all.

Being straight about what the evidence shows

We'd rather tell you where the research is thin than oversell it.

The strongest myo-inositol evidence is in insulin signaling and hormonal markers. That's where the randomized trials and meta-analyses live, and where 4 grams is well established.

The mood research is a different picture. Inositol trials targeting mood specifically have generally used far higher doses β€” 12 grams and up β€” with mixed results. One study of women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder reported clear benefit; another using 12 grams daily during the luteal phase found no advantage over placebo. Anyone telling you 4 grams of inositol alone is a proven mood treatment is going past the data.

This is exactly why Her'dration isn't a single-ingredient inositol product. Myo-inositol carries the hormonal and insulin-signaling side at the dose the research supports. L-theanine at 200 mg and pregnenolone at 25 mg are in the formula for mood and energy so that inositol isn't asked to do everything alone.

Is 4 grams safe?

A safety review of the myo-inositol literature found mild gastrointestinal effects β€” nausea, gas, loose stools β€” only at the highest dose examined, 12 grams per day, and side effect severity did not scale upward with dose. At 4 grams, myo-inositol is generally well tolerated.

Getting the most out of your 4 grams

  1. One 2.5 tsp scoop in 16–20 oz of water, once daily β€” that's your full 4 grams.
  2. Take it apart from high-sugar meals and sugary drinks, since sugar competes with absorption.
  3. Give it 8–12 weeks before you evaluate. Most trials didn't measure results any sooner.
  4. For targeted cycle support, begin use 7–10 days before your period and continue through the duration.
  5. If you want to mirror the split dosing used in the trials, take half a scoop in the morning and half in the evening.

Frequently asked questions

How much myo-inositol is in Her'dration?

Four grams per 2.5 tsp scoop β€” the full daily dose used in the majority of clinical trials, in a single serving.

Why do most inositol supplements contain less than 4 grams?

Because 4 grams doesn't fit in one or two capsules. Delivering the studied dose in capsule form takes roughly eight 500 mg capsules a day, which most people won't sustain. Her'dration delivers it in one scoop.

Is 4 grams of myo-inositol too much?

No. It's the standard dose across the clinical literature. Safety reviews place mild gastrointestinal effects around 12 grams daily, well above the 4 grams in Her'dration.

Should I take Her'dration once a day or split it?

Most trials split the dose into 2 grams twice daily to keep levels steadier, though some studies using a single daily dose also showed benefit. Her'dration delivers all 4 grams in one scoop β€” split the scoop if you prefer the twice-daily pattern.

How long before I should expect anything?

The research points to two to three months minimum, with stronger results generally around six months. Consistency matters more than timing.

Does sugar affect myo-inositol absorption?

Yes β€” glucose and other sugars reduce both intestinal absorption and kidney reabsorption. Her'dration has no added sugar and 1 gram of total carbohydrate, sweetened with organic debittered stevia extract.

Does Her'dration contain D-chiro-inositol?

No. Her'dration uses myo-inositol alone at 4 grams per serving β€” the form and dose carrying the largest body of clinical research.

What else is in Her'dration besides the inositol?

Per scoop: 200 mg L-theanine, 25 mg pregnenolone, 52.5 mg magnesium malate, 390 mg sodium from Redmond Real Salt, and 260 mg potassium. Thirty servings per tub at $49.
