Our Weller Co Journey
How two parents are changing the world of hydration, one drink at a time.
Iβm Luci. I was 16 years old when I first had the thought that what I was putting into my body might matter a lot more than Iβd ever considered. The next decade was spent chasing fads, watching documentaries, going vegan, reading forums, visiting traditional and natural doctors, and trying to be βhealthyβ in our modern world. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I still felt stressed, hormonally imbalanced, and perpetually exhausted.
2024: Everything Changed
Fast forward to 2024. Iβd just had my first child, and both my mind and body were completely out of sorts. The mental and physical exhaustion was taking an immense toll, and my typical healthy food and water simply wasnβt cutting it.
Why not?
The toxins present in our modern world (in the air, water, soil, and our everyday home products) deplete nutrient levels at a rate far more rapid than in the past. This is why supplementation (when done correctly) is almost always necessary to feel your bestβunless you completely remove yourself from modern life.
The Experiment That Worked
I began a deep dive into supplements for daily energy, anxiety, and hormones, and after a year of experimentation I finally came upon a combination of clean, natural supplements and minerals that made me feel like the best version of myself.
I immediately started sharing my results with everyone I knew because I wanted them to feel their best tooβbut there was a problem. I was taking these supplements by mixing tiny spoonfuls of six different powders in tap water and throwing it back like a shot of cheap tequila.
My husband Wyatt watched me drink this mixture every morning until one day he said: βWhy donβt you turn this into a drink that actually tastes good?β
We spent hours that night in our kitchen mixing different blends, and by morning, Weller Co. was born.
Her'dration
We perfected our first blend, Herβdration, and began selling it to friends, family, and coworkers. Wyatt and I waited in anticipation in those early weeksβHerβdration had changed my life for the better, but would it work for other women? Reviews started pouring in, and we knew we had made something special:
- βNothing worked for my PCOS until I tried this.β
- βI canβt go a day without it.β
- βKeeps me hydrated and calm throughout my work day.β
- βMy mood has evened out significantly.β
- βThis has truly helped me live my best life.β
Weβd received the validation we needed, and it was no longer βShould we do this?β but instead βHow do we get our drink mixes in front of every woman in America who just wants to feel good again?β Thatβs when the hard work began.
Building Weller Co
We built this business during nap times, after bedtime, and in every quiet moment of our already busy lives. Between two kids, custody battles, planning a wedding, building a house, and working through the kinks of newlywed life, we poured our heart and soul into building this business from scratch. Wyatt would come home from his 9β5, spend time with the kids, then go right into filling drink mix packets until he was exhausted. On every lunch break, he worked on building the website. I made orders, posted on socials, and put hundreds of miles on my car going around to give out samples, attend business conferences, and get suppliesβall with two kids along for the ride. The temptation to give up and slow down our crazy lives was always there, but the amazing feedback from our customers gave us the fuel we needed to keep going.
Once we came out with Proβdrationβour electrolyte blend plus creatine thatβs for everyone, not just womenβand started receiving positive feedback on it too, we knew we were ready to do whatever it took to share our one-of-a-kind drink mixes with the whole world.
Learning As We Go
We joined Sprocket, a startup incubator based in Paducah, KY. I showed up at the first meeting with my one-year-old in towβthe only person there who brought a kid. We sat side by side at the conference table, already beginning to prove that thereβs a place for families and children in the business world. We started going through their business course, refining our ideas and experimenting with new ones. The hardest part isnβt making the drink mixesβitβs figuring out how to get them in front of people and convince someone to take a chance on a product thatβs never existed before.
We aren't just a Liquid IV or LMNT alternativeβwe are an entirely unique hydration supplement. Sprocket has helped us greatly in this area and continues to do so, and we canβt thank them enough for their support.
The Reality of Funding
The second hardest part is money. It takes money to make money, as they sayβand weβve found that to be true. Wyattβs 9β5 gives us the stability to spend time on the business, but taking it to the next level requires large sums to pay co-packing facilities, marketing consultants, licenses, and more. To avoid investors and loans at this stage, Wyatt and I started a side hustle cleaning industrial substations. I meet Wyatt when he gets off work at 4:30, and we scrub carbon black dust off breakers until midnight.
We believe in our products so much that weβre willing to sacrifice our precious free time and energy to fund the future of Weller Co. To us, itβs a small price to pay for the freedom to grow our company how we choose.
Why We're Doing This
We arenβt an already established company, trust fund kids, or from a big city. Weβre small-town, middle-class, normal parentsβjust like most of you. We solved a problem in our own lives and, in the process, created the most unique hydration blend on the market. I often think to myself, βWhy hasnβt anyone done this before?β and Iβve realized the answer: no one was willing to take the risk and put in the hard work like we have. We wonβt stop until weβve shown the world that hydration doesnβt end with electrolytesβitβs only the beginning.
